Mr. Kalya Stephen, is a mathematician and recently retired Principal of Bishop Willis Primary Teachers’ College. Mr Kalya has a Masters in Education management. He contributed significantly to producing Raising Voices guide ‘Creating Safer Schools, Alternatives to Corporal Punishment’.
Title: Vice Chair, Board
Ms Annette Mbedha (Vice Chair). A feminist and Executive Director of Buyemba Subira Uganda Foundation (BSUF) an education charity based in a neighbouring Butansi village. Annette has community development degrees from the University of Brighton. She is also the safeguarding lead at the board.

Dr Betty Kamira is an obstetrician and gynaecologist working with Makerere University and John Hopkins University. Betty brings clinical expertise and vast front-line experience in delivering healthcare to marginalised women and girls. A formidable women rights activist, co-investigator ion seminal studies on HIV/AIDS prevention. Betty has medicine degree and post-graduate qualifications in public health.
Title: Treasurer
Ms. Lorna Nakato (Treasurer) is a chartered accountant and a Senior Accountant at the Ministry of Education in Kampala. She has vast experience in financial planning, budgeting, prudence, finance systems and controls at all levels. Lorna has illustrious finance experience gained from working at The Women’s International Cross-Cultural Exchange (Isis-WICCE), Ecumenical Church Loan Fund Uganda (U-ECLOF) and FINCA Uganda. Lorna was born and raised in Kabukye. She is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

Dr David Kazungu, is a seasoned educator, an agricultural extension expert and co-founder of Kabukye Trust. He served numerous high-profile roles, including a rural economics professor, MP, minister, and Chair Board of the National Agricultural Advisory Services. He was born and raised in Kabukye and co-convener of the olwekobhanho grand community meeting from which Kabukye Trust was founded. He has PhD in Rural Economics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Prof Ronald Naluwayiro is a human-rights lawyer, published researcher and the Principal at the Faculty of Law at Makerere University. Ronald holds an LLB, LLM (Cambridge University) and a PhD (SOAS). His research interests include military justice, human rights, and governance. He brings on board legal expertise.

Location: Kabukye, Peterborough UK
Allan is a community builder and thinker. He became CEO in March 2019, having set up and run Kabukye Trust since 2011. He is passionate about innovating solutions to remove persistent problems such as child sexual abuse, children’s lack of agency, and weak mathematics talent development in Uganda. Using design thinking, Allan has helped design most of our interventions.
Current voluntary board and advisory roles include the Chair Mwiri UK.
Allan’s career spans over 20 years with roles in NGOs and consulting in the UK and Africa, including The Leprosy Mission England and Wales, as the Institutional Funding Head, ChildHope UK as the Project Director of its flagship £8m Girls’ Education Challenge and Africa Programmes Manager, and MSI Reproductive Choices as their New Business Development Manager.
He holds a BA in Social Science and a Masters in Economic Policy Management from Makerere University Kampala (as World Bank Scholar). And certificates in Designing and Running Randomised Evaluations (MITx) and Design Thinking (IDEO).

Miriam is the Finance and Administration Officer, responsible for our management, internal control and long-range financial planning. Affable but a stickler to details, Miriam heads our operations, ensuring we are a safe organisation for our clients and staff. Joining in 2019, after a stint in South Africa as an accountant for Knead Bakery and Patisserie, Miriam holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Makerere University, Kampala and is completing a CPA qualification.
Title: Programmes Manager
Location: Kabukye
Ivan is the Programmes Manager. He coordinates project activities and cultivates relations with local stakeholders. A master problem-solver, Ivan joined after a tour of South Africa as a missionary with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. A recipient of 2017 Young Missionary Award and 2013 Reproductive Health Uganda’s Top Peer Educator. Great with children and young people, Ivan has diplomas in Project Management, One Health (University of Basel) and pursuing a certificate in applied health (Brigham Young University Idaho). Ivan lives in Kamuli with his wife Hasifah and daughter Meghan and plays football for the local club St Joseph Savio.
Title: Disability and Play Inclusion Social Worker and Nurse
Location: Kabukye
Sania Bogere is the Development Disabilities and Inclusive Play Social Worker/Nurse. She spends most of her time visiting families and schools offering support on the effective inclusion of children with disabilities. An enrolled nurse, Sania completed a Diploma in Disability Inclusion in Education (University of Cape Town).
Title: Monitoring and Evaluation Officer
Location: Kabukye
David Nzigu is the Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting and Learning Officer. Soft-spoken, with an irresistible smile, David spends time measuring our results. Our default visual storyteller due to his passion for photography. David has a degree in social sciences (Kampala University), and a certificate in Evaluating Social Programmes using Randomised Control Trials (MITx). He lives close by in Buwenge Mpya with his wife Anita.
Title: Diabetes Social Worker/Nurse
Location: Kabukye
Sulait Kakulu is our Diabetes Nurse who is heading the launch of our Child Health First clinic. A skilful nurse, he spends most of his time carrying out clinical assessments, administering treatment and wound dressing. He has a diploma in Nursing and Midwifery and is pursuing a post-graduate certificate in Diabetes Care (Leicester Diabetes Centre). He plays volleyball for the local club Flowerland.
Title: Mathematics Mastery Lead
Location: Kabukye
Paul Bizibu is our Mathematics Mastery Lead. He is the kind of teacher who uses humour, and creative lessons and has a strong classroom presence. A strong communicator and passionate mathematician, Paul is a lifelong learner and spends most of his time curating a community of practice of mathematics teachers – the Math Angels which we have set up at our mathematics mastery hub. Paul has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics education.
